This tutorial is very interesting for everybody who has got a DVD-Drive giving Open Tray/ Disc Unreadable / "To play this game put it in an Xbox 360" and similar Errors related to the Drive not reading games properly.
It works for 90% of the drives, the results vary but usually it gets the drives back going + it is free, no need to get a new laser.
Tools required:
1x Screwdriver to open the drive
1x Screwdriver or similar with a tiny bit at the end(to adjust the pot)
*1x Multimeter
* Multimeter should be used for perfection but if you dont have one, you can also try it without, just need to be more careful then.
Philips-BenQ VAD 6038 / Philips-LiteOn 16D2S(Phat) / Philips-LiteOn 16D4S Pot Tweak
The very first thing is, connect the DVD-Drive to your console, then open the DVD-Drive, then when the tray is out, disconnect the DVD-Drive from the power.(This way the tray stays out, giving you a better view on the laser)
Then you need to take off the outer casing of the DVD-Drive in question this method works for all the newer Phat and Slim Drives.
Phat Consoles:
For the 16D2S and VAD6038(Phat DVD-Drives), you only have to take off the top, the pots are at the top part of the laser and can easily be adjusted.
You turn the left pot(DVD) counter-clockwise, one bit at a time, 1 bit = approx 1/12th of a turn, like on a clock. Keep checking if the DVD-Drive reads disks better after each try.
If you have a multimeter, you can check the reading, usually it starts around 5.0~, you can go down to a max. of ~3.0(If you go lower you risk killing the laser)
Slim Consoles:
For the 16D4S you have to try to reach it from the bottom, if you remove the PCB, that can make things easier, the pots are at the bottom part of the laser.
You turn the left pot(DVD) counter-clockwise, one bit at a time, 1 bit = approx 1/12th of a turn, like on a clock. Keep checking if the DVD-Drive reads disks better after each try.

For these drives there is a tutorial somebody called Moda made a while ago, follow the instructions in the PDF file.
You can download it here:
What to do if it fails?
If it fails you will either have to replace the laser, or possibly even the entire DVD-Drive, you can find all these parts on the Official Xboxexperts.com Shop for a cheap price.
