Binary/Hex: | 00000101 / 0x05 -> 5 |
Known fixes: | |
1) Make sure the CPU heatsink is making good contact with the chip, apply a thin layer of compound and put the heatsink on without screws, make sure it gives a good imprint then.

Description: | |
This error appears when the CPU overheated, after that the xbox locks itself until it cooled the chip down. The reason for that is that the heat cant be dissipated to the heatsink/ the heatsink isnt cooled properly...

Comments for this Error code:
Fixed this twice now, both Xenon
1) No thermal paste, caused not enough transfer of heat even with x-clamps.
Overheat within 10 seconds of power-on
2) x-clamp was not attached properly, clip was not in the grove on the leg.
Overheat within 5 seconds of power-on
Also make sure you have a fan shroud, or you'll get this overheat after a
few minutes because the PowerPC CPU puts out ALOT of heat!
To solve this problem once and for all. Well i just solved one where i had the
0011 error and simply removed all the steel washers and only used the nylon
washers and its working perfectly no overheating. So its just trial and error
when it comes to overheating like 0011 and 0012. Remove metal washers, remove
nylon washers etc. It worked for me and solved my 0011 problem. So if you see
that the heatsink and chip is making good contact but its still overheating try
removing metal washers, nylon washers, etc. If after only using the nylon
washers it still overheats then increase tightness of the screws IT WORKS. In
total you will be using 16 nylon washers. IT WORKED FOR ME. GOOD LUCK
I fixed this error by reflowing the cpu with an achi pro SC. I applied new
thermal paste and put the original x-clamps back on. Put it back together and it
fired right up.
JUST MOD IT!
This is how it should look like,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y-EjpHr1to&feature=related. The fan is not
expensive at all its less than $5 on ebay... This is the way the Xbox 360 S has
its fan installed so it should work. Place the fan with air blowing to the
outside of the console and NOT the inside like this,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxXAVOPiXmE&feature=player_embedded#! GOOD
LUCK
This is what you will do use a dremel tool to cut a hole on the Xbox 360 case
and use tape to tape the fan on top of the cpu and small gpu heatsink; some
consoles come with the small heatsinks, others don't. To give power to the
12v fans. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Th8gUMOUdU, follow this link but just
buy any 12v fan like the ones used in desktop pcs. You can find them on ebay not
expensive at all. Use this video as a guide to install the negative wires,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Th8gUMOUdU. Use this videos as a guide to
install the positive wires,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EASAn_rhINA&feature=related. The 12V fan will
have one positive wire and one negative; the black wire will be the negative and
the positive is the red.
Edit from previous comment: Don't flip the fans over. Well it will work
but it might only be temporary. After i flipped the fans over and played 10+ hrs
on the console i got a different error code which required me to reflow the gpu
and its working now. So my best advice is to install a 12V fan, make a hole on
top of the console and place the fan on top of the cpu and/or gpu. This seems to
be helping and it will keeep the inside of the console cool. You essentially
will be installing a fan similarly like the Xbox S has. Preferably use a 120mm
fan and a 50mm; You will only use the 50mm on top of the small gpu heatsink that
is next to the gpu then install the 120mm over the top of the cpu heatsink and
the small gpu heatsink
p.s. cutting the trace in the instance of the heatsink not making proper contact
will cause rapid breakdown in the solder leads on the entire corner of the chip
lacking contact. Thus making reball your only next option.
Im sorry for such a blasphemous statement, but x clamp fix is a waste of time
and money, but if youre into that cool. Funny seeing how alot of people running
into over heating have done the x clamp replacement. Over heating is due to the
heatsink not making proper contact to the bga chip. You figure it out. However
if you reuse the x clamps like me, make sure your x clamps are not too stretched
out. Try different x clamps. And the usual culprit is make sure your fittings
that thread into the heatsink are tight. Being backed out a thread or two will
cause overheating. Wah wah waaaaaaah.
Flip the fan over and cut the temp sensor trace to fix this problem if nothing
else solves it. Preferably try to play in room temp at least under 75F. The
point of flipping the fan over to to direct air at the cpu and gpu to prevent
from overheating. You might need to cut off pieces of the side of the fan and
use tape to tape the fan to the 360 case. Use a dremel tool to cut off pieces of
the fan thats what i did
...I have saw the picture for that will find info next post if u still need
help... I'm having a problem with both my xbox and xbox slim, with the
xbox I'm now not getting any red lights just green but no video! I have
re-applied the paste as this is not my first fix. Okay quickkk update I now have
it workin but have yellow like block colours (some times Blue or a White blur)
on certain shades of colour! Any ideas peope?

if none of the above worked like in my situation i reflowed the two memory chips
that sit under the gpu heatsink and bam it worked.. it was the memory chips
overheating...
i noticed one heatsink is getting really hot and the others not at all.. ???

Cutting the temp trace worked for me! I got the error after doing the X-clamp
fix and forgetting to add the washers between mobo and CPU heatsink. I was able
to run the xbox and play a game for around 5 minutes and then got the 2 lights.
The fans were really loud by then.

I did put the compound and removed the X-clamps bit when i want to see how to
cut the temperature sensor trace i dont see a picture
